Biography
Romain graduated from the Veterinary School of Alfort, France in 2002 and specialized in virology at the Intsitut Pasteur-Paris, where he obtained a Diploma in fundamental virology in 2002 and a PhD in virologye in 2005. Romain was then recruited as a Lecturer in Infectious Diseases at the Veterinary School of Toulouse in 2006, where he is teaching and leading research programs on avian Influenza viruses. Romain was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Cambridge from 2010 to 2014.
Research
By combining the analysis of viral sequences obtained from virus isolated from various hosts and molecular biology tools enabling the genetic manipulation of Influenza viruses, Romain aims to identify mechanisms influencing pathogenicity and transmission of avian Influenza viruses in different host species. As part of the “Chaire de biosécurité » and a Young investigator grant from the French National Research Agency, his research project focuses on identifying how the host species (chicken vs ducks) influences the emergence of highly pathogenic avian Influenza viruses.
