Jean-Luc GuérinDVM, PhD, Dipl. ECPVS

Biography

Jean-Luc graduated in Veterinary medicine at the Veterinary School of Toulouse, France, in 1995. He then embarked in a MSC then a PhD program and obtained his PhD degree in virology from Paris XI University in 2001. He obtained his habilitation to supervise research (“HDR”) in 2013.
Jean-Luc was recruited as an associate professor at the ENVT in 2002 and shares his time between clinical teaching in avian pathology and research in avian virology. He’s diplomate from the European college of poultry veterinary science (ECPVS) since 2009 and supervises a residency program. He’s full professor in avian pathology since 2015. Jean-Luc heads the virology group of the IHAP ENVT-INRA Joint research unit, the VIRAL LabCom and the Chair for Avian Biosecurity.

Research

The research of Jean-Luc is developed in the joint-research unit INRA-ENVT IHAP: it’s focused on investigation of poultry and rabbit viruses, to identify emerging viruses and adaptation factors to their hosts. His research is particularly devoted to pathogenicity and tropism of avian influenza viruses in the different avian species. For several years, he investigates the application of next generations sequencing (NGS) to address more accurately these research topics, in an applied perspective to detection of viruses.
